Transmission Swap

Post by courtenay »

Is it possible/difficult to swap an automatic transmission for a manual - i.e. go from automatic to manual. Is it as simple as unbolting one and bolting in the other?

Probably a dumb question, now that I've taken a couple of more minutes to think about it...forgot about the clutch and pedals...

There are no dumb questions. Yes you need a different pedal box, not a big deal. It can be done. I almost changed my 68 to an auto so my girlfried could drive it.

less effort to change the girlfriend to one that can push down a clutch pedal and move a shifter at the same time :)

pedal wise, all you need is the clutch pedal, brake pedal and the bushings for the inside. a 5 speed shifter plate underneath and the wood cover. a clutch cable. the front section of the driveshaft is different, but may be simpler to replace the whole unit. and of course the trans and flywheel/clutch assy. a few hours and poof its a 5 speed! unfortunatly the speedometer will be off, as the rear end racio is different, but it wont hinder driving. easyer to keep a 99.00 tomtom to give you speed readings :)
