79-2000- key switch removal

Hi folks.
I've got to test a donor engine and don't have the key. They are both 1979's -2000 cc. Of course I can unplug the pigtail connector at the back side of the key wiring, but how do I completely remove the ignition switch without destroying it. I'll need it back in my car.

Heh Tobi,
awesome. I got it explained to me on another post, but this is excellent. I probably would not have taken off the steering column cowl until I realized that the ig switch wouldn't clear it. Step by step --FANTASTIC.
