Rocker Panels

Post by reservoirdog »

My 1982 needs minimal body work, but the rocker panels are going to be pulled and any rust in the area removed.

My autobody shop thinks they may be able to save one of them, but warned I may have to replace them - here's my question -

IAP lists a steel rocker for 219 vs an aftermarket for $89. Anyone try the aftermarket? He's concerned it may not hold up

genuine Fiat body panels haven't been available for at least a decade, if not longer. So I would think all body panels now would be aftermarket. Is the cheap one fiberglass?

The IAP catalog lists steel at 219, but I'm sure thats not OEM, maybe just a heavier gage. The aftermarket is 89 - fiberglass is 79, but sounds the most fragile - have you seen fiberglass hold up?

If it were my car, I wouldn't use the fiberglass. As for the cheap rockers, I've seen lots of body panels that came from Taiwan, and the fit was less than perfect.

The ones for $219 says O.E. but unless they started stamping them again, I'd wonder. I bought mine 10 years ago from IAP and they felt more flimsy than the original but they've held up nicely.

I have a steel after market pass side rocker that I no longer need, and yes I paid the 200+ for it..

If you want it just send me a msg with a reasonable offer, I have no idea what the shipping would be I am sure we can figure that out.

Thanks

It was bought for a 76, but I am not sure if there is any differance. I will look into that and get back to you, or if you find out first, just let me know...
