final prep for engine assembly

Hi just doing a little last minute checking on my engine assembly. My engine is ready to put back into the car. I have done a complete rebuild and changed over to a 32/36 DFEV carb. I have gotten rid of a ton of vac hoses and blocked off the fuel return line. I kept the line from the fuel tank to the charcoal cannister but block off the other lines to the cannister as suggested. I have a few lines on the inlet manifold that I think need to be blocked off. Can anyone confirm this for me? I have also blocked off the vac line on the carb as my distributor doesn't have a vacum advance. I also removed those valves that are on the left fender, but I kept the Idol switch. I know that I need to hook up the electronic choke yet.

Does this sound like I have done everything to run the rebuilt engine???

I have put alot of effort in the engine and I don't want to screw it up. It is basically a new engine with new bearings, oil pump, seals, rebuilt head, and new higher compression pistons and rings.

Any last minute help would be appriciated.

If you can be sure that the vacuum port wasn't serving any useful purpose, then I agree that you could get rid of it. It's good to keep the crankcase breather hose connected back through the carb. I would keep the gas tank return line -- why are you disconnecting it?

Ace, I don't think this carb has a provision for a return line. Sure, a "T" could be spliced in at the carb to provide a return point, but as long as the fuel pressure is correct, it should be fine.

What I'd like to know is how the charcoal canister is installed, since this carb is vented to the atmosphere. Maybe Mike B's installation instructions cover this, but I don't have a copy handy.
