heat shield

any opinions on the merits of taking off or leaving on, the (heat shield?) above the headers. i am thinking of taking them off for aesthetic reasons. not currently using the pipe that connects to the top of the shield.

that heat shield does a fairly good job of protecting the distributor from excess heat.
