Are you injectors a CONTROLLED leak?

Post by zachmac »

I just had an interesting find. I have a decent running 1980 FI car and while tearing it apart for no good reason I decided to do what I do with any and all injectors removed from an old car, send them off to WitchHunter Performance to be cleaned and tested. For anyone who has an FI car and doesn't know about these guys they are great. For about $20 per ijector they perform before and after flow and spray tests and send you back completely cleaned and refurbished injectors. I have seen a marked improvement every time I have done so with any older FI car.

Anyway, this time I get a call that says "Sorry, one of the four isn't servicible." That's nice speak for it's got a broken pintle and can't be fixed. These means BTW that it has been flowing a static flow of about 120 cc and a pulsed flow of about 148 cc for who knows how long versus the desired nubers of about 94 and 118, respectively. That would explain the realtively poor gas milage, rich exhaust and high idle! If you've never done so, having these guys check and freshen your injectyors is money well invested (no affiliation).

Their web page is at http://www.witchhunter.com. Again, no affiliation, just a long term happy customer.

BTW, in addition to clean refurbished injectors they send you a printout showing the before and after stats for each injector. My set for example had a 24% variance in static flow and pulsed flow before cleaning and less than 1% after they did their magic.

Sold me.. I have a few spares kicking about, I'll round them up and send them down. I think the ones on my Golf are acting up as well. I can ship down and then ship to Oroville WA and no ups brokers.
I have a high idle in the car but I think it might be the spring on the throttle getting kind tired, but a set of known good injectors will be nice to have.
