Shipping Cost from Europe
Shipping Cost from Europe
I was looking at a cylinder head for the fiat. But the guy says he cannot find anyone to ship it for less than 300 euros which is 400usd's So who had received a cylinder head from a European country or aluminum rims and how much was the shipping. Also do you know who shipped it. like dhl, fed ex, ups, etc. fyi, its in italy.

Unless you've found a 16v version, there's no reason to go thru the expense of international shipping for a cylinder head. All of the carriers you mention have service from there. It's not only the transportation cost that kills you, there's the duties and fees.
Of course, for only a little more than $400, you could fly there yourself, and bring it back in your suitcase!

Re: Shipping Cost from Europe
Other places in Europe will ship 4 aluminum rims to the usa for only 180 euros. Thats size and more weight compared to a cylinder head. So i am trying to figure out how to get a more reasonable shipping cost. Maybe by ship or something. Hmmm maybe Guy Croft knows. I should check there too.
ps it is a 16v head

Hi -
just checked the cost for shipping from Germany to the US - using http://www.dhl.de/en.html - this did result in 45€ (~$50). From where do you expect your shipment? What is the weight of the 16V head - I did assume it is less or equal to 10kg) ?
ciao,
Stefan

There's always the Post Office. I've seen some disparaging remarks on various other Web sites, but they offer both Priority Mail and Parcel Post equivalents. I've been mailed 4 hub caps from Italy for $20 US. Ask your seller to take the head to his local Post Office and get an estimate.
Oh yeah ... how are you going to deal with the "backwards" nature of this head installed in a Spider? Custom exhaust? Maybe Mark's smaller starter would give you the necessary room.

If you want it to arrive here you should stay away from the regular Italian post. There is a reason why a lot of people don't send to or from Italy! It is safer with ups but that is why it is more expensive. Italy is very nice in spring so to fly there is really not a bad idea.
