Mass Air Flow Sensor ??

Post by jim3 »

Has anyone had trouble with this unit? If yes, how did you know it was the MAFS? What did you do to fix it? Has anyone tried simplying cleaning the unit? I have seen a spray electrical cleaner for MAFS. Does it work?

Are there any performance mods that can be done to this unit or should I leave it alone assuming that it works right?

the Spider doesn't use a Mass Air Flow Sensor; those measure density of the incoming air. You have an Air Flow Meter which only measures volume. The most common problem with them is the flap may get bent (usually from a backfire). Remove the intake boot and move the flap by hand thru the full range of travel; it shouldn't bind anywhere.
It is possible for the potentiometer part of the AFM to wear, but that isn't very common. I wouldn't suggest you open it and try to make mods unless you have a CO meter and/or understand how it functions.

On the flow sensor there is an adjusting srew near the exit hose. What does this do?
