So since I've had my car, there has been an oil leak. It only leaks after driving. So if i left it sitting for three weeks it wouldn't lose a drop, but if i take the car for a drive and park it, there will be some oil drips under the car. Initially we thought it was the rear seal and replaced it, but the leak has not stopped. I can't tell where the leak originates because of how dirty the block is and how much oil is everywhere.
On a side note, while looking through service records from the previous owner, he had a mechanic in california look at the car and the mechanics notes say he couldn't find it but it only occurred at certain rpms? I'm not sure what that would mean as far as the source. The valve cover gaskets don't leak so it's not weeping from there.
Any ideas?

Re: Oil leak
Check out the dizzy. Mine leaks a bit from there. Or it could just be from the oil pan. Those are only supposed to be tweaked to about 10 lbs or something. Very easy to leak from there. Could be your oil filter or your drain plug. Could be from the head itself. Another area to check is the timing belt. It could be carring a leak from the main seal to different areas of the motor. Good Luck
Mine leaks after driving as well. but, only a few drops in certain areas. I got this really great leak protection system. I call it the B.A.B.A.L System or in lay terms the big ass box anti leak system. I simply unfold a big ass box and when I park the car, I do it in such a way as to make sure the engine is left hovering over the B.A.B.A.L System.

Re: Oil leak
You really should clean it to make it easier to track the leak...
If rear main seal was replaced and it is not leaking there, my bet would be the front seals or the oil pan....the front you can check easy if the back covers are no longer there.
But again, trying to find a leak without cleaning the old stuff out, will be difficult

Re: Oil leak
Doesnt Hawaii have those 1.50 car washes with the pressure wands that can clean that engine?
Of course, in Hawaii, they might be 5.50 pressure washes!

Re: Oil leak
The rear main seal, the trans input, and trans output shaft oil seals were all replaced. None of the gaskets or the front seals were replaced.
I don't think we ever cleaned your crankcase oil vapor seperator and that could be leading to excessive pressure in the crankcase pushing oil out at the seals. Its located under your intake manifold and is secured with a 13mm bolt. The bolt is rather long and I don't know if you can remove the breather without removing the intake manifold...I could be wrong.
Like others have said, you NEED to clean all the junk off or you will never find it. A can of brake parts cleaner a roll of paper towels and an hour or so later.

Re: Oil leak
Sounds a lot like my leak.Just little drips here and there. Not enough to affect the level, but enough to be annoying.Someone here had me use talcum powder ,under all the suspect areas, after cleaning. That way you could see where it was running from(it also prevents jock itch) :lol:I was worried about the rear seal, but mine is from the soon to be replaced oil pan gasket

Re: Oil leak
You can buy a leak detection kit that has a uv light and dye, it works pretty good.

Re: Oil leak
I had already planned on spending tomorrow washing the car inside and out and cleaning/tidying the engine bay.
How did the talcom powder help to find the leak? You applied it on the block and watched for trails?
I'll report back when I've got some results

Re: Oil leak
So I cleaned off most of gunk I could reach without taking much apart. It looks like it may be a combo of oil pan, possibly from one of the cranks, or maybe a weeping head gasket. I'll have to drive it a couple days and monitor it as it slowly grows
