I got my distributor cleaned. I didn't know what I had. I didn't even know what to look for until a day ago. I got lucky and had a good one. I only get lucky once in awhile. Here's some pic's of before and after. She's perty

Re: distributor
It is very pretty, Brady. I would suggest getting a new rotor that has the brass piece of metal JB welded to the plastic. I had a problem with the type that had it riveted on coming loose and causing problems with my timing.

Re: distributor
Denise,
what was the piece that was JB welded. Any why was it hooked to the plastic?

Re: distributor
Brady,
Check with the vendors, there are two rotors that will fit the 79-85 electronic distributors. One, like yours has a solid brass rotor button. Not sure, but these rotors may be for the early block mounted distributors as they look very similar.
The other (correct) rotor is made of brown phenolic plastic and has a resistor between where the cap carbon button contacts and the end of the rotor near the plug wire contacts. I think the resistance is around 5K ohms.
Both will work, but you should try to get a rotor with the resistor in it.

Re: distributor
I prefer the rotors without the resistor. Unless you are trying to eliminate radio noise, the resistor is not needed and will eventually fail
Re: distributor
Are you saying the rotor I have isn't correct for the 78? The rotor I have is in good shape. The rivets also look nice. My car is the late 78. It seems to be hard sometimes figuring out if I need a part thats pre or after.

Re: distributor
Brady, just make sure that when the rotor is tightened down the advance weights can still move. I had one cap that had a bit of plastic from the casting mold seam. When the rotor was installed it clamped down on the advance weights, I took it off cut/filed off the interfering plastic material and it works.

Re: distributor
I guess maybe that would mean that I would have one for a 78? If so, am I missing anything?
Re: distributor
No I think you have the rare Euro version. No vacuum advance. I asked someone that rebuilds these distributors if he knows what your part number corresponds to. I'll let you know what he says.
