SO CAL SUPER BOWL STRUT?

Post by So Cal Mark »

Is anyone up for a run on the morning of Sunday, Feb 7th? That's Super Bowl Sunday, but the game is in the afternoon. I'd be happy to hear suggestions for a route. We've done the ridge run several times now for the Turkey Trot, so an alternative might be nice

I'd love to make that my debut run in the new car. Of course that depends on me having a car by then which is still up in the air. Basically, if I have a car, I'm in. I don't, however, have any suggestions for a route. I like the ridge road 'cause it's so close to home, but I'm open to something that'd be closer to someone else's home for a change.

Absolutely! One of these days we'll have to do a run up a couple of canyons around the Santa Clarita area, Boquet and Franciscito are great drives. But anywhere's OK with me.

if we try to organize a run to Willow Springs on Jan 24/25 for the Alfa track day, is a Super Bowl Strut too close for a good turnout?

Not in my opinion. But, I want to be there whenever there's a get together. To me, these events are the best part of owning one of these cars. I never will understand how everyone doesn't feel the same.
Maybe the fact that it's Super Bowl might affect turn out though. There are those who would pass on a Fiat Outing to watch it. To me it's just a football game with good commercials.

Stupor Bowl usually isn't until 3 or 4pm so we usually have time for a run and the trip home before the hype hits a fever pitch

Keep the superbowl strut close to home.. mainly so we can get home in time to watch the game.

a change of venue may be a good idea, but how much should we change it?

I would like to see some ideas on other routes discussed before we pull the trigger.

The Glendora Ridge Road is as challenging as you want it to be. If it sucks, drive faster, or slower to suit your mood. The scenery is fantastic.

One thing I would really enjoy, is to do what we considered last year.. and take it clear through route 2, Angeles crest highway.

meet early enough, drive fast enough, and you are still home in time for the kickoff

even if you live a couple of hours away

thoughts?

While at my conference here in AZ I was talking to guy who lives in Pasadena and rides a Harley. He was recommending route 2 out of La Canada Flintridge, up to a place called Newcombs Ranch for a good lunch? Says it is all open now. I'm not familiar with it myself.

I'm not very familiar with the west end of the route either, it's been over 20 yrs since I was up there

Route 2 is closed for the winter(as it is every year) The problem with going to Newcomb Ranch you have to come back the same way you came. There is a huge problem with debris(rocks) coming down from the fire area. I would guess a 50% chance of getting hit. There is a way around closed 2. take Angeles crest to Angeles Forest to Mt. Emma to Big Pines Hwy to Wrightwood, but not very senic due to the fires. I don't know of anything that would be central for everyone.

the weather forecast is for rain all weekend, and with mountain roads closed and snowed in lately, this date is not looking good
