Brake lines

Post by Mark_vaughn »

I have created a new problem while trying to fix an existing one. I rebuilt the front calipers and am trying to replace the rubber hoses. They have welded themselves to the nut on the brake line and I broke the brake line.

So has anyone replaced these lines? Do I need to replace the line all the way back to the master cylinder? Will the lines at the local NAPA store work or is there something special about Fiat?

I damaged the front passenger one so far. I havent tried to replace the other ones yet, hopefully I can do so without tearing them up.

the brake lines that Napa carries may or may not fit, there are several types of lines used. Fiat used a bubble flare on the ends and the fittings are metric. You'll probably have to replace the line to the master cyl, it's tough to splice a line unless you can flare it on the end where you cut it off. Unions and compression fittings are not normally used on brake lines

Anyone have a source for replacement lines? I checked IAP and they do not carry them. Didn't match anything at the local autoparts store, the threads are too coarse.

The drivers side met the same fate when I tried to replace the hose. And I will not be surprised if the back do so as well. So I will probably need an entire set of lines.

I'd soak the rear fittings in penetrating oil and wire brush off any rust, then make sure you hold both the hose and the fitting with wrenches. I probably have used lines on a parts car I could remove for you

I sourced most of my non-Fiat brake line parts from Auto Zone. There are metric adapters available for most fittings.

Also, there are numerous vendors besides the one you mentioned. Shoot me an email and I will recommend some Fiat vendors.
