FIRST LOOK!-NEW IDF MANIFOLD
Here are the first pix of our new IDF manifold. All steel construction, lighter than the aluminum manifolds that are floating around. We're working on pricing now, and will probably offer an introductory discount for a month. We can also supply either new Webers or Empi carbs. The carbs in the pic are Empi, made in the same factory as Webers.

That looks really, really nice. And I'm definitely interested in more details. How will you be finishing them? Powder-coat? or ceramic, like your header?
Have you measured flow numbers on 'em? is this compatible with any of the typical emissions crap that gets stuck on our cars?

I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

It looks like the intake will be priced about $400, but I am planning on an introductory offer on this site and my website. Ebay items will not be discounted. I'm planning just to use a high temp paint on them to keep the cost down. Really no need to ceramic coat since there isn't that much heat on that side of the engine.
As for emission compatibility, it would be difficult to use an egr and/or evaporative system. Air pumps and catalysts could be used.

very nice. I wasn't necessarily concerned about the heat, as much as the durability of paint, particularly on that "Shelf" that the carbs sit on, where it's flat and exposed, around the base of the carb.
Not to mention, it'd look pretty cool to have both intake & exhaust with a matching finish!
I'll be very interested in the complete kit.
as a matter of fact.... in a LOT of yer stuff.... once I get the wife her new bathroom, and I get to start spending $$ on my own project again!

wait until you see the new ignition system we'll have after the 1st of the year. It will really blow you away! As for plating the manifold, I'm sure we'll be offering it as an option. Having the matching polished coating on it would be pretty impressive

Is the manifold set up just up to 40 IDF size or is it a little bigger for the 44 IDF size as well. I know 44's are a bit big for any fiat but just curious being there would be no way to resize the port to fit a 44 being its steel and thin wall construction. By the way they look very nice.

we built that manifold for the 40idf. The flange is thick enough to blend for larger throttle openings and the mounting flange is port matched to the cylinder head

What about linking the carbs together? It seems that could be a problem if a person attempts to use "any old" IDF or EMPI carbs.
In your picture the carbs aren't mounted. It looks like they touch if they are, so some changes to the shafts appear to be necessary. I know the Pierce solution takes care of that, but are we dependent on them for a solution?

the Empi or Weber 70 carbs need minor mods to be linked together; basically just shortening the threads on the throttle shaft on one carb. Right now, Pierce is the only one I know of selling the kit that links the carbs together. We're working on that.
As for carb spacing, we set up the manifold for the IDF 15 series carbs since the new carbs can be modified. If we set the manifold up for the new carbs, then the older IDFs would be too far apart and there isn't a kit to cure that problem.

Hey Mark, didnt you say this manifold has better flow due to the fact that it dosent turn at 90 degrees like other manifilds. C'mon , if ur gonna pimp ur parts do it right. You could take a lesson from Fiasco.

we used curved runners, not a sharp 90 degree turn like the waffle manifold. For the carbs to sit upright, there has to be a 90 degree turn. With a square corner though, fuel drops onto the floor of the manifold, out of the air flow. Bad, Bad, Bad. Ours doesn't do that

Is there a square corner on the waffle manifold? I recall it having a nice swoop to the runner....maybe we're not talking about the same thing.

Mrs Burchett, I dont think were talking about an actual 90 degree turn with a square corner, but more or a sharp turn as compared to a more gradual turn.
You know, Ive come to realize that cars that are our color are the best looking cars around. That volumex just proved that. It seems , I cant stay focused on one thing at a time.

I do agree with you on the color. I didn't think much about it 15 years ago when I picked mine up, but the more I see it with other Fiats, the more the color really stands out.
