This Ebay work look familiar?

Post by Jon »

Does this look like Allentown Brown, Ebay Mike, (insert pen name here) work? Hidden bidder identity, high dollar bid for average spider? This seems suspicious, does it not?

If you're new to the Fiat community, or looking to buy a Fiat, I hope you poke around a bit on this site first and ask for some advice. I don't have an ebay account, yet, but all I can say regarding this listing (and ones that are formatted this exact same way for Fiats) is... BEWARE! :x

The engine bay doesn't look as clean as others he's had, but sure looks like the same person to me.

Only $7K? He must be losing his touch. I believe this car was previously listed about a month or so ago.

He's got another one on now, and suggests the price may be under $15k.

I would not buy from him again

Bought my 83 from him over a month ago. I am still waiting for a couple of parts so that the car is safe to drive. I paid too much for too little. Buyer beware is so true.

So, if it is so blatant that a particular individual is abusing the populous, why can't something be done?

Please excuse my ignorance, as I am not an avid Ebay shopper. I just don't trust strangers with large sums of my money (not meaning to offend anyone). I just shake my head when I hear that people spend THOUSANDS of dollars sight unseen, with not knowing the sellers name, address, phone number and shoe size. To me, this is just asking to be bilked. The honor system never has really worked in the real world; at least not in my experience.

But, if this (and Mira, and FLU) forum folks all can identify this individual as a crook, why can't he be dealt with? I just don't believe that a victom cannot (by using these forums) gather up a strong enough case with other victoms and expose the crook in sufficient manner to have him banned from EBay.

Please help me understand why I keep reading these complaints and no one takes action.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I have an issue to take up with Ebay anyways. I should ask them this at the same time.

Forgive my ignorance. When I look at the car Jon posted, I see an attractive vehicle with a price that's too high. What has this EBay seller done in the past and how has he bilked the buyers?

apparently he has misrepresented vehicles and sold vehicles that weren't the ones pictured, amongst other things. He has a long history, and has been discussed at length on the various forums
