Hi, all. I was driving my '78 Spider today, and had several problems plague me within minutes of each other.

I started the car (which I have been driving daily, including a 100+ mile trip to pick up parts) and proceeded to drive off. Everything was fine. I merged onto the freeway, and it seemed like I wasn't getting the power I usually have. I couldn't get it up to 50 mph. I got off of the freeway, and everything seemed as usual. I decided to take surface streets, maybe she wasn't warm enough yet. At the second red light, I noticed that my right rear wheel was SMOKING!! I guess the caliper has siezed with the brake on. The wheel was super-hot.

Also, just before parking her, she began to cough and sputter, but the guage readings were all normal. I parked on a side street and will be going back to claim her and tow her home on Monday.

I think there are problems in my brake system related to the brake compensator. I need to get out to SoCal Mark's shop and get a bypass hose. WHo has installed one? What do you think? Does your car drive any differently? Does the rear lock up easier?
