POWDER COATED RIMS

Post by NJFIAT1981 »

Hello all,
Just picked up 8 rims that I dropped off at TRG Coating in Stockholm, NJ. Tom Giordano did a really nice job powder coating both sets. His prices are very fair for the quality of his work. His number is 973-208-6814. I will post pics of the rims asap.

I look forward to seeing them. What were the rims made of? I was thinking of sending my magnesium CD-3s to have coated. I accidentally washed all the paint off of them.

Ok Denise - just exactly how do you accidentally wash the paint off your CD-3s? There's a story there...

I thought they were aluminum and used wheel acid on them....not very good for paint. :?

Hi Denise,
Give Tom a call. He's a real nice guy. He has better photo's that he can email you than my 1.3 megapixel camera will take. Sorry to hear about your rims. I currently have a heater core problem myself. Soon to be fixed. George

How much was this? I was thinking about powdercoating my rims too.

with your wheels, I'd polish the flat spokes and outer rim rather than powder coat

Bought a set of cromodora's for the 72. first boiled them in friends cleaner then were blasted with fine glass medium. Powdercoated grey. Manoa Matt linked me up with a fellow that helped with the wheel caps.(thanks Matt) The blasting took a while but I think was worth it.

Hi Nick,
Tom charged me $50.00 per rim which included prep of the rims. They really came out nice. Still trying to get some pics posted

Very nice! The set I boogered was like Narfire's and I have a set of Turbos for autocross tires. There are a couple powder coating shops close by I'll give a shout to for pricing.

Did you guys and gals know they also make clear powder coat? I think the grey looks too dull. Bead blast the alunimum rim and then clear powder coat is the way to go. Only problem is most places will only do a clear powder coat on rims that do not have any polished areas, must be all matte finish.

The iron cross rims (CD 16) originally had a polished lip/rim, the raised areas were also polished. I'd like to keep it that way when refinsishing mine, but masking will be difficult.
