You guys (and gals) did this to me....

Post by majicwrench »

OK, not blaming anyone, I am a big boy and can make my own decisions, but I just got my third Fiat. This is a $100 mostly parts car, a 72 just like my driver. Now I have my 72 driver, this new 72 parts car, and a 71 ( I thinks) that has some potential, but has been contributing parts to the good 72 as needed. So far the wife hasn't complained and I have room to keep em all out of the weather, but this IS starting to get serious.
Just venting,
Keith

Keith, if you stack them like my avatar, you can fit many in the garage.

No no no. He's going in the right direction. He'll really be confused if we throw FI's in the mix.
Keith, an easy way to tell if you've got a 71 is to see if there are any engine compartment lights on it. Fiat decided the 72's wouldn't give enough trouble to warrant the added expense and discontinued them.

No confusion on the FI car,Mrs. Burchette! It is the one that starts right up anytime you are ready to go! You can identify them by those sturdy, manly bumpers for us American drivers.Easy to tell them apart from those...other cars. :D

Pshaaa! Just put an electric fuel pump on a carbed car and you eliminate having to know the special sequence to start a regular carbed car. BTW, what fun is that?

fuel injection ? that's for sissies

including the SpitWad, i've owned six sports cars in the past six years...NONE of which were computer controlled fuel delivery. a REAL mechanic wants control over his/her fuel delivery and relies on CARBURETORS to provide that spectacular, old-school performance.

I've heard that the lazy folk, and shade tree mechanics opt for the electronic management; as do the weak and feeble.

But, that is just what i've heard.

I'll stick with carbs thank you, I was the "Carb Guy" at a lot of dealerships back in the day, so I am kinda fond of them. I have however, noticed starting them sometimes can get interesting...

Hey, my newest basket case turns out to be a 70, I found an old registration. And yes, it has an underhood lite!! (thanks for the clue) And a electric fuel pump poorly hung back by the fuel tank. And a LOT of bondo. And about 7 diff colors of paint. And good front TS lenses!! (yeah). I'll get out and see what my other basket case is, I know it has similiar marker lites to the latest, different from my 72 runner.

Good start Keith. 3 more Fiat Spiders and you will catch up to me. I have to slow down buying them because my kids don't have enough storage space on their properties. I keep 2 at my son's 2 at my daughter's and 2 at home with me.
Lots of fun.
Good luck

Actually, one of them is thinking about becoming a parade car, I do a lot of community "stuff" and having a convertable to do parades in, with some pretty girls riding along, would be very handy.
