driveshaft question

Post by narfire »

Wondering if I can use a later(81) driveshaft on the 72.

The genius that delivered the car forgot to drop the drive shaft off this past spring. He was good enough to phone and let me know he will drop it off when he makes a delivery to a shop around the corner from me. Well that was back in April/May. Now he says he dropped it off with the car.I have been calling 1-2 times a week the past 2 months....
All I can hope for I suspect, is he has not passed on his genes to any offspring.

they are slightly different lengths due to the differences in the differentials, about 3/4" as I recall

Hmmm... 3/4 inch,if it is short then perhaps a spacer could be made at the diff. end, otherwise a used one, if i can find one, is in order. Looking at a parts car next Sat. the guy was asking $900 bucks though, about the same as the total of the two 72's I have.

I'd think even in B.C. that $900 is too much for a parts car. in my book, that is project car pricing...

$500 buys a complete parts car here.

I was planning on an offer of $300 and depending on how complete and shape of the car, might goto $500. I'm just concerned that I might think its restorable and I'll end up with yet another.
I suppose the fellow had to start somewhere,he has taken the add down from CL...no bights

i just looked at a parts car the seller insisted nothing other than her investment... $350. literally the only thing that was salvageable was the windshield and the trunk lid. the car did not even have the correct wheels... sporting some Honda rims. she didn't even bother to ask what i'd give for the car as i hopped into the truck and pulled my empty trailer away.

everyone thinks they have a treasure in their back yard, since it is an exotic Italian vehicle.

cost me $10 in gas and 80 minutes of borrowed time from a friend who owns the trailer.

I've been trying to get another owner to part with their 72 just west of me. I have bought for $100 the front and rear lights, starter, door stuff, chrome trim, top assembly and other bits and pieces that mostly filled up the back of my expedition. The body is toast but would like some of the running gear. I have offered another $100 for some more,or even getting the rusted hulk out of the yard. Like you found MIke, some people think more of these rusted lawn orniments than their first born.
Saw a purple 72 for sale in Nanaimo(Van Island) looks tired, for $1500... first impression...$1000 too much.(now if it had "teddy bear wheels"...)
