Post by Kevin1 »

Guy Croft is writing a new, updated version of his classic workshop manual. GC is taking reservations ahead of the publication date as this is an edition limited to 500 copies.
Christmas is coming . . .

I can't say what Guy's plans or reason choosing to do 500 copies is, though he is referring to it as a collector's limited edition. Don't know if it wil have everything from the old book, as he said in his email that there will be plenty of newer, updated information in it. At 100 pounds (about $62.00) I figure it's money well spent, and will make a nice addition to the ever expanding twin cam library.
Here's the text from his website:

GC BOOK - LIMITED (COLLECTORS) EDITION

Postby Guy Croft » Thu Aug 27, 2009 11:09 am

Quick reference ‘GC How To’
OE engine data

Signed copies will be available ONLY to those who secure a copy in advance via deposit (£50) and the book is available on a strictly first-come-first-served basis.

Why should you pay a deposit for something that is not finished yet?

I am asking for deposits so a) that those who want it can be assured of getting it (500 books is not many..) and b) because - due to VERY demanding commitments at GCRE I have to ensure that I can commercially justify taking time out to produce it. I would ask you to remember how intrusive such a big undertaking is.

The order form is available as a download in the topic above this one.

Yep, more in the $160 range. I'll be passing.

Old copies of Guy's book seem to command premium money as well, as he seems to have been hesitant to keep the book in ready supply, rather slowly leaking NOS copies every now and then for inflated prices. He seems to have mastered this kind of price manipulation, but more power to him I guess.

To his credit, he does seem to keep up a website/forum with lots of good, friendly, and free advice when it comes to tuning our twin-cams. Much as Mark does a magnificent job of here.

So Mark, when's the bargain-priced $100 twin-cam tuning book due out? ;) I'll take two!

Dang it all!!!!
If I had a dollar for every dyslexic moment - I could buy a copy for each and every one of you.....
Right you are, $160+. But my order is in, the card has been charged, and what's done is done.
Now, who'll go to bat for me when I try explaining this to my better half?

My wife has often pointed out to me that a British pound is not really "equal" to its converted value, simply because everything over there is much more expensive. It is more realistic to think of 100 GBP as being more or less the same as $100 US, despite the actual exchange rate. So his new book at 100 GBP is probably pretty realistic "over there," and only seems outrageous when we have to buy it with US (or Canadian) dollars. Don't know if I"m making sense

Yeup makes sence to me. Last time the parents were there, beer 3-4 GBP for a pint to our 3-5 dollars. Gas - 1 pound(or close) per liter to our dollar/L, coffee- 1pound 20 to our $1.50 (at Tim's anyway)
What costs us a dollar,in jolly-old is around a quid.

All of us are entitled to our opinions, but this seems pretty presumptuous on your part, don't you think? I've had contact with Guy on numerous occassions and am pretty certain his goal was to share his knowledge of tuning these engines with the Fiat community and if he made a buck or two, isn't that why he's in business? The fact the books are selling at such high prices now only goes to show you how invaluable they have become. Guy is not making a dime off of these sales since they are all preowned. I've put my order in, not because the new book may be worth 10 times more than I'm buying it for later on, but because I know how much work and testing has been done for Guy to write this book so I should be able to learn a thing or two from it.
