So I am in the market for a new convertible top, and am facing the usual conundrum. Vinyl or Canvas, and what manufacturer to choose.
Hmmmmmm.
I've come across a couple different manufacturers(acme, germanex, robbins) and plenty of debate on whether vinyl or canvas better. But no discussion about the different manufacturers quality. I'm personally leaning toward getting canvas for the bonus of keeping my interior cooler as well as making the car look better.
So that leaves a few simple questions to help me with the decision, what brand do you have, what type of top do you have, and how satisfied were you?(as far as price vs quality goes)
EDIT: oh, and who made your top and where did you get it from?

Re: What did you choose for your top?
I bought an EZ-On black canvas (Stayfast) top 3 years ago, and finally put it on this year. On my frame which I now consider close to perfect, it fit just like a glove. The seam was not perfectly aligned with the front bow edge, the drivers side is slightly off, but only slightly noticeable. And the velcro flaps almost line up perfectly but I dont find any use for them considering the top is nice and tight and doesnt flap at all. I would recommend the brand as I think they are somewhat less costly than other brands. I did not glue the front of the top to the front bow. But I did glue the top to the rear triangular windows and the flaps around the other three bows. The cables are a must. The more tight the cables are, the lower the top comes below the window line.

We installed a Robbins canvas top, choosing the canvas with rolled edges for the look. It fit well and was not as hard to install as I thought it would be. The only downside is the canvas material is harder to keep clean than the vinyl.

Canvas, I had a vinyl top but the canvas was way more realistic looking.

I'm happy with my Robbins vinyl top. I keep if folded down through most of the year but when I do need it, it fits nicely over the windows and still looks good after 13 years.

Re: What did you choose for your top?
I just got my new top on. It's a canvas top purchased directly from the manufacturer(germanex I believe). Top looks fantastic, only bad thing is that back window scuffs ridiculously easily any tips on protecting it?
Re: What did you choose for your top?
I put a towell in mine when down. Keeps it from chafing.
