carb swap

Post by narfire »

Yes another question about carb swaps.
I have a new 34ADF in the box I was saving for a 79 that I was close to buying. That has'nt panned out but I do have a 72 that I could use it on next year if the carb will swap without too much fiddling.I have a single plane manifold as well.
Will the 34adf bolt on or is it going to be for sale? Thinking the 72 has manual choke.
Thx

I may be interested in both the carb and the intake manifold if you determine you won't need them. Thx.

Is the single plane manifold currently on the car? The 72 anifold will not have the coolant port at the rear of the manifold for the automatic water choke on the 34 ADF.

Hi Matt.
The manifold on the car I want to change carbs is a stock duel plane with a stock carb found on the 72. The single plane I bought has a port that has been pinched off, something to do with smog is my guess and a smaller port with two plugged lines from the "T". In front of the carb is a fitting with 2 small ports comming from a single fitting (they are plastic I think)
Can the single plane be rigged to flow water to the choke on the carb?
I am a while out on this, but if it ain't gonna work I could use the loot for another carb that will offer a bit more performance than stock.
Thanks

water choke started in ??1975??

are you asking to modify a '74 or older 1800 manifold to a water choke? you'll need to tap into the existing water jacket of the intake manifold and thread that hole for a port (feed tube) about the same size as the tube on your water choke. i do not recall hearing of anyone that has actually done this.

then there is the question of the other tube on the exhaust side of the engine for the return line from the carb back to the water pump. does the heater pipe from the water pump on your car have this port for the water choke?

Chris,
I would definitely be interested in the carb if you decide to sell it.

Dang I hate that.Try to post same time as another come through.
Anyway, try again,I had bought a single plane sometime ago,It looks to have a water port on the side closest to the fire wall, goes to one side of the water jacket on the carb? As for a return line, could one plumb into the 2L heater pipe with the port on it. I think the heater pipe from my other 72 did not have a port on it.
Please try to excuse the ignorance,I've been mucking about with a FI for the past two years and this carb stuff is a bit of a learning curve.
I'll let all know if I sell the carb, but if I can get water to it and out of it it should work.
Thanks

Craig, all I could think of when I first took the air cleaner off the carb was " now there are two more holes to drop stuff into" :)
