rear brake regulator setting 80 spyder
May have been posted but could not find- How do you know the proper setting for the rear brake regulator? There is an adjustment on the mount that allows some movement. Also, after installing a new regulator I bled the rear brakes with a pressure bleeder and got some old dark fluid to flow through with the connecting bar loose from the axle. I did not bleed the front and now I am getting some noise front front brakes. What is the correct procedure for all 4 brakes? I read about tying up the bar as high as possible and then bleeding- Does this also affect the front brakes? Thanks, Tom

Re: rear brake regulator setting 80 spyder
I seemed to have misplaced my shop manual during my Lemons debacle so hopefully someone will post the pic and instructions for adjusting the proportioning valve. When the brakes are applied in a panic situation, the rear end comes up and the proportioning valve is closed to minimize rear braking so the wheels won't lock up. This is why it's imperative to keep the axle supported when bleeding your brakes: to keep the valve open and let the fluid flow. The best sequence to bleeding your brakes is start at the wheel farthest from your master cylinder and work your way around, so it would be right rear, left rear, right front, left front. Hope this helps and I'll continue to look for my book.

When I had my rear valve problems, it left me without rear brakes for the drive home from Detroit. It was ok, since I did not "mention" it to Carol, and I was carefull driving home. I kept kearing a pop noise under braking and it sounded from the rear. Upon inspection, I found there to be white corrosion powder inside the rubber boot at the adj rod and valve. I assume this is caused from using unlike metals which causes electralisis and corrosion. It would be a good idea to service the valve and inspect the system.
