No turn signals . .

Hello again,

After some months of trouble free motoring and clear blue skies I have hit another snag.

During the week I removed the upper console and installed a new CD player. Obviously, as part of this, I removed connectors from my cabin light, lighter and hazard switch. I installed the CD player and put everything back together again.

I am now in the situation where I have no turn signals or hazard lights at all. I still have all of the other elements of this circuit working perfectly i.e. parking lights, reverse lights (back up lights) and brake lights (stop lights). I have stuck my head under the dash and I don't hear the flasher clicking at all.

Any ideas would be welcomed warmly . .

You should have left well enough alone.
Last time I tried removing and replacing my stereo I broke the interior light and got a burn from a short circuit on the cigarette lighter when a live terminal came in contact with my wedding ring
Most of these problems can be traced back to a bad earth (ground), unfortunately finding and then tracing the wire concerned is incredibly frustrating, especially if your wiring has been converted to Right-Hand-Drive format.

you probably tapped into the wrong circuit because your blinkers wont work unless they are hooked to your hazzard relay behind the center dash. So when your turning and the radio is on, does the radio go on, off, on, off, on off ?

The turn signals are protected by fuse A. There are a number of other things on that fuse so if all else is working it should not be the problem. Power from the fuse goes to connector C32 located behind the center of the dash. Then on to the Hazard switch. There is only one flasher and it works for both turn and hazard flashers. If the dash turn indicator lights you have voltage through the hazard switch to the flasher and the flasher could be defective. If the dash indicator does not light then you probably don't have voltage to the flasher.

IF you have a trouble light or voltmeter I would check for voltage at the flasher's Dark Blue wire. With the hazard switch in the off position the wire should have voltage on it in the "run" position of the ignition switch. In the hazard position it should have voltage all the time. If neither voltage is there I would expect the hazard switch is unplugged. If the voltage is there I would suspect the flasher.

Last Thursday was a nice sunny day, that I spend screwing with my manual brake conversion on the '72, so we decided to take a nice 120mi round trip to have dinner in the '82. We took a nice drive thru the redwoods, but on the way home my nice new hazzard popped out a little, (I didn't put the big nut on the back so It was easier to change), and shorted on the metal rim and toasted the fuse. "No Problem", I thought and poppeed in a new fuse. Still, no gauges, brake lights or blinkers. Whatever, we drove home. When we got home I grabbed the test light and checked for voltage on both sides of the fuse, nothing on one side. The new, (old, but unused), fuse didn't work! The fuse block is tight and clean, but the fuse did look a bit corroded, (old Euro type fuse). I popped in a new fuse with copper ends and everything worked perfect! Watch out for the simple stuff!
