Where are these parts from?

Post by manoa matt »

In the never ending search for all things Fiat I constantly find myself saving pictures of parts, engine bays, modifications, etc. etc. I'm sure at some point someone will say "Hey I know that car, its Joe Whatshisname's car"

The first picture is one I took from the IAP website in the customer's car section. (realy interesting examples if you never browsed around there) This car has a strange distributor, it looks like an X1/9 cap. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/3865837901/

Why would anyone install one in a spider? is it electronic or provide a good advance curve?

The second picture I can't remember where I got or saved it from. Anyway you will notice the silicone coolant hoses, and if you are a real Fiat freek you will also notice the T-stat is installed incorrectly. Where do you get the silicone hoses? I know the Monty Hospital sells silicone hoses for lancia models and some look similar to the shape of the spider hoses. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/3865837905/

I saw the yellow car on YouTube, seemed to need some more "PRO TUNING". I haven't deen that dizzy before either, maybe that's why it ran like crap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDpoX9hAukk
Maybe the turbo124.com boys know of a source for the hoses?

That yellow spider belongs to Armando Mauricio from Rhode Island. It is turbocharged, and puts out in the neighborhood of 225 hp! I've driven in it, and can verify that it hardly runs like crap - more like a scalded cheetah. It is faster than my 5.0 liter Healey. R&M is his brother Rui's business, he specializes in performance tuning for VW's. Extremely knowledgeable guy, I have never seen a better sorted Fiat twin cam turbo setup. This car was at FFO this year and drew a fair share of attention from the gearheads among us.
If I had the money I wouldn't hesitate to have Rui do a similar, but milder setup on mine. :D Anyone thinking of turbocharging their a Fiat would do very well to get in touch with Rui and Armando.

On the YouTube video it runs like crap, that's why it seemed funny when I saw the Pro Tuning decals. Other than the one video I know nothing about it. If I were him I'd update the video.

My comment was directed toward identifying the car for Matt, I hadn't seen any videos of it when I posted.
But now that I have seen it I totally agree, it does run like crap in the video! Wonder why he posted that at all - the car runs beautifully now. I wish I had a video of our drive in PA. It took hours to wipe the grin off my face!

Hello everyone.Came across these forums by accident,I was looking for pics of FFO 2009.Since I"m here I'll take the oportunaty to clarify a few coments .Start with the R&M pro tuning sticker on the windshield.about 15 years back I and my brother Raced the fiat spider with a massaged 2.0L on 45 DCOEs being young and proud of the set up we thought it would be pretty cool to show off a litle and we came up with R&M thing wich is Short for Rui and Mando our first names. For some reason my brother never took it off ( don't know why). the Running Like (crap) video was due to my brothers impatience and my lack of time to go by is house and finish it.I made him a user friendly motronic Harness and labeled it for easy installation and he got that part right but he run into a litle trouble with the firing order.NOW...the answer to the original question : the manifold is off a Lancia , the distributor is a modified bosch unit to fit the Fiat cam housing and cam gear, the exhaust manifold is a fiat unit modified and welded to accept a T25 Hybrid turbocharger, the downpipe was fabricated, the lack of thermostat is simple... the early fiat 124 twin cams did no use the three way thermostat ,so we just copied that.the set up is intercooled and it runs 16psi with plenty of fuel to spare but we run into an issue keeping the tranys together at higher boost levels. It is very tractible and runs very nice.Estimated power is 200hp + to the rear wheels.I have been building turbo systems for a while and I feel the engine makes at least 275HP. we will soon know for sure . Have a planned Dyno session coming up and will be posting the results.Hope to be on here soon again .thank you for letting me register and be able to post on these forums and forgive my spelling errors I have no time for spelling checks.RUI.

Hi RUI,

Would you or your brother be able modify my exhaust manifold to accept a t25 turbo? If communicating by phone is easier send me yours or you can call the number below.

Thanks,
Ralph
