Happy again floor panels fixed

Post by amsiegel »

Just got back from driving the car back from the repair guy that welded and repaired my floor pan. He did a great job. I got the passenger side front floor pan off of ebay and he had to tweak it some becuse the fit was not perfect. He explained how he had to do this and that do make the fit and repair. I have no clue what he was talking about. All I know is that there is no more hole in the passenger side and the trans tunnel, the small drivers side holes where patched, and he fixed the problem that the PO did trying to repair behind the drivers seat.

The drive back was a blast especially compard to the ride to the shop (20 miles hearing the engine, exhaust and watching the tire roll down the road). Now I cant wait to get back putting in back together. I got the soundeding material in called Edead and will be ordering the new jute stuff with the relective side soon. I am going to clean the old carpet for know. Once I figure out what color I am going to do on the interior then I will change it.

Sorry I am babbling. The repair has made me happy and motivated again.

Hmm. You've made me realize that maybe I don't need more muffler. I love the sound of my car, but it gets on my nerves after a while. But maybe with the floor holes patched up and sound deadening material put back over it... Thanks for babbling

Just to let you guys know that you can get the stuff from Lowes or Home depot that is for Roofing. It is the stuff that you put on the roof to keep ice out. It has the same density as dynamat at a fraction of the price. I just can't think of the name. If you go to one of those places, they'll know what you want. :P

I think the HD stuff is caled "Peel and stick", "Peel and seal" something like that. I did not heaar about that stuff till after I ordered the Edead plus I am not sure they carry ice blocking materials in Florida. THe E-dead cost a $1 a foot. I only tried a small piece so far but it sticks well.

Around here HD and Lowes sell Grace Ice and Water Shield. 108 square feet for $70.00 It is a rubberized asphalt material with an very sticky adhesive backing.
Dynamat at the local VIP is $140 for 36 square feet.
Great idea!

Are we sure that typical ice and water shield won't have a smell when applied inside the small interior of a spider? I know when you are at the supply house where alot of it is stored there is a nasty odor.

Without those big rust holes, how are you going to monitor your front suspension going down the road? Not to mention, now you lost your air conditioning in the floor. Your feet are going to get hot! Just kidding - congrats.

Like azygoustoyou, I used the "Peel & Seal" from Lowes. It's not quite as thick as dynamat but the sound deadening qualities for the price seem to be just as good. It's reflective on one side and has a good strong adhesive on the other so you don't have to use a heat gun to apply it. It's also easy to form and cut to shape with only a pair of house hold scissors. I did the whole interior of the car in it for like $30.

It did give off somewhat of tar like odor when first installed (It is designed for roofing applications). But after a couple of days you couldn't smell it at all.

lol... I am a puppet...

Just bought a roll (9" x 50', $40) of this type of stuff from local HomeDepot. Since the new carpet is on order, this will go in first!

Cool, thx for the ideas!

Show pic's. I'd like to see how it looks. :P Let me know how much that roll does in the car. I still have to do mine.

I looked for the products at the local home improvement stores with no success. I did find Heat and Sound Insulation Thermo Shield at the local Pep-Boys auto parts, it is a 4"X6" roll and covered the interior with enough left over for under the hood. It is aluminized with insulation backing and I cut it to shape with scissors. It it manufactured for Sprecta Products by Delaware Valley Corp in Lawrence, MA. I think I paid about $22.00 for the roll. So far I am pleased with the results and it does meet the FMVSS 302 Flammability of Interior Materials requirements.

4"x6" and you did the interior and under the hood? Are you a magician in Vegas on the weekends.

Grace Ice and Water Shield is in the Roof shingle section of the store at Home Depot and Lowes. IF you get the 36" roll, you can put 2 layers down for thickness. The stuff is sticky. Used it on an addition roof of my cottage 3 years ago.

It looks like Flyingthere is from Texas. I bet the local places don't sell Ice and Water shield in hotter climates. It's required by building code in some states, other states recommend it, and in other climates it's useless. It prevents roof leakage at the bottom edge when I ice is built up. Without it, water would dam up and go backwards underneath the shingles and damage the sheathing. I used it on my roof a few years ago and I live in NJ. Funny thing is, I never even thought of the use in cars but it does make perfect sense! I never used Dynamat before due to price so I guess I never noticed the similarity. Thanks for the recommendation!
