1800 head on 2000 block

Post by nibbes123 »

Does anyone know how well a 1800 head mates up to a 2000 block. Need to know which head gasket to use , also the timing belt and any other modifications thanks Nick.

1.8 head on a 2L block is a great fit, mates up perfectly. The 1800 and 2000 both use the same head gasket so it dosen't matter. Fel-Pro makes a good one. Use a 2L timing belt.

If you are fitting it into a 79 or later body you souldn't have any fitment issues. If you are installing it in an earlier chassis or with a small bump hood you may have a slight interference with the front edge of the yellow cam pulley cover, or if you have the electronic distributor you may have to turn it so the wires point away from the engine.

If you use the early motor mounts you can gain some clearance as they are slightly shorter than the later ones. Or use 1993 Volvo 240 2.3L motor mounts.
