Keys locked in trunk, crap!!!!
So, I was checking the heater blower motor by jumpering it in the trunk (it's out of the car) and sure enough laid the keys down and then forgot and closed the trunk! I of course have not had a spare set made. So I pulled the glove box lock and took it to the local locksmith but he says he needs one of the door locks. BUT, to pull a door lock I need the glass up and to raise the glass with power windows I need the unhooked battery in the trunk hooked up and the ignition key in the ignition turned on which is of course ALSO in the locked trunk. Crap, cRAP, CRAP!!!!!
So looks like I have three options:
1) get another battery abd jumper the windows so I can pull a door lock
2) have the locksmith come to the house and try to pick the trunk lock
3) sell the car for parts!!!
Crap, crap, crap. I think my immediate action will be another martini !!!!!!!!!

A more drastic way that requires no drilling but might ruin the trunk lock is to jam a flat blade screw driver into the trunk lock and turn it hard.

Re: Keys locked in trunk, crap!!!!
Just to be clear, ~1/8" hole, center of car, ~1.5 inhes below surface showing when trunk lid is closed? I don't want to drill more than one hole? Also, once I do, what exactyly is it I should be looking at or for? Am I trying to actuate the lever or the catch itself?radiopilot wrote:Jeff,

you will actuate the lever; use a long thin screwdriver and move the lever to the side. Seal up the hole with rtv, or leave it open for the next time

New hole in trunk and trunk open! Worked like a charm! A stainless sheet metal screw filled the hole and the palte hides it so I'm all set the next time I want to get stupid! I even left the little screwdriver in the glove box.

Excellent... did you have another martini though?
I too have this hole but with a screw lever which I turn with a screwdriver ( screw hidden behind the license plate as you have done but it turns a lever which opens the latch).

Re: Keys locked in trunk, crap!!!!
We did the same thing during restoration and went in thru the tail lights. If you can remove them somehow...
Re: Keys locked in trunk, crap!!!!
Ok I did it too and got the instruction from this board which did work like a charm of course. Do you think it is a Jeff thing?

A decent locksmith can make a key right there on the spot. I wouldn't want to add yet another hole to any of my Fiats.

Re: Keys locked in trunk, crap!!!!
No, all my crap is now locked out of the trunk! As I posted, I did the hole drill trick and it worked great. I now have all my crap that belongs in the trunk back in trunk and all my carp that doesn't belong in the trunk out of the trunk! Or, in more modern terms, I have junk in the trunk!pope wrote:You have crap locked in the trunk?

Re: Keys locked in trunk, crap!!!!
I too locked my only key in the trunk last year the night before leaving for FFO. Locksmith wasn't an option because of the timing and I didn't want to drill a hole in my car either. I removed the license plate and removed the upper right hand plastic screw insert. I used a coat hanger through that hole and was able to pop open the trunk in less than 30 seconds. I replaced the plastic screw insert and have no extra holes to seal. I will say it again. THERE IS NO NEED TO DRILL A HOLE IN YOUR CAR TO OPEN THE TRUNK.mdrburchette wrote:A decent locksmith can make a key right there on the spot. Of course, the easiest way to avoid this situation is to have extra keys made, which I now have
