Some Pics of the Components in the 2.0L Custom FI TC

Post by sptcoupe »

Here are some pics of the components in the new 2.0L, TB FI engine that is going into the coupe. Forgot to get a pic of the pistons before they went in, but they are lightened and the calculated CR will be 10:1:1. The crank was lightened and hardened as well. Working on the FI system now, but it is going together well so far.

Looks good. About how much hp do you think it will put out? Just curious. How much do you think you'll have into building the engine? Also the pulleys look nice. How much were they? Thx

The parts and machining will be about $5K. I sent all the specs to GC, and he calculated that with the 40mm TBs (equivalent to 45mm carbs, according to him), the cams (carefully profiled to be a true 42/82, both sides), and increased bore (85mm), plus Marks' header and the exhaust, distibutorless ignition, etc, we would get 175+ HP. We'll see what we get at rear wheels when we get it on the dyno and map it. It should rev quite quickly given that the crank, pistons, flywheel, rods and all pulleys are very light. No increase in HP, but if it all works, will be fun, for sure. If it works....

Are you using an aftermarket fuel injection system? Can you talk about what you are using.

The FI is from SDS, is fully programable and does not need to be plugged in to a laptop. Self contained. The TBs came from Redline, as did the fuel rail. The inter-TB linkage is fabricated (the TBs sit too close on the manifold to use the linkage designed for them), and we will fabricate the throttle linkage. Already have the basic design done, but will wait until we get the intake system fully mounted on the car. Still figuring out where to mount various sensors, but it should be clean installation.

Forgot to add that an important component is the 95 amp alternator we have adapted from a '92 Ford Tempo. We were worried that the 65 amp stock alternator would not get the job done with the new electrical power demands. I have some photos posted with the Tempo alternator installed in the "Engine and Tuning" section of the forum. Didn't take much to make it work.

I weighed the original rods and my custom Crower rods when we rebuilt my 1608 and the Crowers weighed 1.5 lbs less than the original. This may not be exactly the same as Jeff's engine components, but it's going to be close.

Rod weights

Post by vandor »

Hello,
I know I wrote the weights down somewhere, I just need to find out where...
From what I remember, the Crower rods weigh about 75% of the originals.
On the spec sheet Crower lists the weight as 628, I assume that is in grams.
