So I got the cable fixed... and the timing set... and the car is still giving me trouble!!
I think it's the carb that's giving me grief. Periodically when the car is at normal temps it starts backfiring and stalling out when i'm at a stop light. Its like the carb has a Jekyll and Hyde complex! Arggg!!
