Hi Guys
I have a '76 Spider. I believe the car has a Weber 32 ADFA carburetor. I am looking for an air cleaner adapter to go from this carb to the standard 5 1/8" diameter sized air cleaner. I see that there is an adapter made for the DGV series carburetors. I have a couple of questions...
1. Is the air cleaner bolt battern the same from the 32 ADFA to the DGV series? I noticed that the air horn area is more squared off on the DGV. I think I could make this work but I need to know if the bolt pattern is the same. The link for this adapter is here: http://www.knfilters.com/Racing/plenum.htm . The K and N part number is 85-1061.
2. If this adapter won't work, does anyone make anything that fits the 32 ADFA? I know that there are "lunchbox" style air cleaners that fit this carb, but I would prefer to go a different route.
I would appreciate any info that you could give.
Thanks!
Josh

Re: Weber Carb Air Cleaner Adapter 32ADFA ?
The bolt pattern and cutout area is different between the two carbs, so the DFEV adapter will not work on a ADFA. The lunch box style air cleaners for ADFA carbs are available from the vendors: IAP, Vics, and Bayless. If you are looking for a round look then some guys have cut the sides off the stock air cleaner to expose the filter element so its basically a round top and bottom plate that sandwiches the stock filter element. K&N also makes a "performance" free flow filter element that is round and the same dimensions as the stock filter element.
Some guys have also bought the round filters for other carb types (think something big and round for a Ford or Chevy) and fabricated a base that will fit over the carb top.
The ADFA is an older carb that has not been made for many years so there are not a lot of after market parts specifically made for it. Fortunately the carb top design is pretty simple and making a custom base plate for an air cleaner is easy with minimal skill.
