Side Mirrors

Post by Nick »

Hey everyone. I was planning on getting a new side mirror for my '79 Spider. I want the one labeled as number 7 here:

http://www.esportscarparts.com/Fiat/mirror.htm

However, it says it is only good for '68-'78 Spiders, and mine is '79. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these and could at all let me know if its that much of a change or not. My old mirror is falling off, so we'll have to remove it, and if the only difference is the holes underneath then we could probably just fill them in and re-drill some. Just curious if anyone had any insight into this for me or not. Thanks.

It depends on what style mirror you have now.

Does yours have the remote cable to adjust the mirror from inside? The 68-78 mirror does look good, but the base is small. If you have a hole in the door for the remote cable the base might not cover it and provide sufficient material to screw into. It should work on the non remote cable version.

Is Caribou still in business? Vics and IAP sell that mirror a little bit cheaper.

Denise had a good link for mirrors. Here is what I got, http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProd ... exID=32075 I got the ones labeled A, the base fits different sizes.

I have had my mirrors for a few months. And was not aware of any problems. But I will stop recomending them if you say so!

From what I've heard Ed, (Caribou) is out of business and for some reason left his web site up. You can pay, but won't receive any parts, others here have allready been through this. Mike's talking about esportscarparts.com, not Moss Motors.

Wow, that was a lot of replies very quickly. No I am not planning on using this vendor, I've seen the mirror elsewhere, but it had all of them side by side and the one I wanted. I was just using that site to show you what I was looking at. The current one I have right now is number 1 on that catalog. Thats the one with the cable Matt was talking about. Perhaps we'll take off the mirror and see what is underneath, but I was just wondering about the base size and holes lining up.

You mean you are going to put British mirrors on an Italian car? Blasphemy I say! Just make sure to remember positive is ground when you wire that mirror up, otherwise it will be all "smoke and mirrors". ha ha.
