Heater Shut Off Valve

Post by yap123 »

Hi,

Is there such a thing as a heater shut off valve which allows you to turn off heat which naturally comes in from engine compartment? I alway get heat coming out of the vents.

Thanks,
Clint

Are you sure you have the controls set in the correct position? They should be down/up/down for the heat to be off. It's possible one of the cables are binding or disconnected.

also, while ensuring that you are using the controls properly, are you sure that the heater control valve is not frozen in an open position?

General failure of our favorite cars.....heater control valve frozen open.

You'd be surprised how much heat DOESN'T come into the cockpit when that valve is functioning properly!!

Got mine replaced before FFO '05, and was never so happy!! Now I actually have vent air on my feet.

Oh my gosh, I've been waiting to post on Fiatspider.com for a long time to inquire about this exact issue!!!

Let let me under stand this correctly, as you are sitting in the drivers seat, the levers shoud be as follows-
Far left in the far down position..
the middle lever, up - towards the back seat and
the far right lever should also be down - correct?

I've had this problem for quite some time and I believe it to actually be a cable binding up because the lever is difficult to move at times. I'll find out shortly as I am getting ready to replace the carpet and consoles soon.

Thanks guys!! 8)

Yes, Fifi. You are correct. And, you should never wait for someone else to ask the questions. That is how we learn. If there were someone at this, or other Fiat forums that poo-poo'd you for asking too simple of a question, that individual would get flamed real bad by the rest of us.

And, if you have a GOOD heater control valve, it will close off all hot water to the heater core. My valve shuts down the flow completely, so I can get outside (unheated) air to my bare tootsies. It is a audible sigh of satisfaction that can be heard each afternoon when I leave the office.

Thanks mbouse,

Actually, I knew that spider.com was down for a while and this was the first visit back here in quite some time.

I had to chuckle about you remark of fresh air on the feet. Right now, my feet are saying, "are we still in arizona"? But I do think that I am dealing with a cable binding up, but for some reason, I could put the one lever in question the full position and the air wasn't nearly as hot.

I actually just learned on the same day is what the two buttons next to the - brake, gas sensor, and seat belt warning light - do. I even tried it out that night and sure enough, it worked as advertised.
