Can we media blast springs?
Can we media blast springs?
I wanted the clean up the springs and was wondering if it was all right to media blast them? Also are we able to get the plastic or rubber covering to cover them like you see on new springs?

I've been thinking about doing that myself. I'm sure glass beads, walnut shells, or soda would all be fine. I'd probably stay away from sand, silica, or anything harsher. I also thought about powder coating them after the media blast, but wonder if the heat from the powder coating bake process would alter the springs.

I would talk to a company that does powder coating. I don't think it would hurt springs if they were powder coated. They only heat the part up to 400 degrees. As far as media blasting springs, I can't see how that would weaken them since it only affects the surface.

I recently posted an excerpt from an article that warned about heating after powder coating. The writer warned that springs heated above 350F can/will fail
