I started cleaning up the bottom. I' m using some chisels to scrape off the undercoating and a grinder to clean it up. Here is a before and after pic.

Image It's taking time to get it off. There is some small holes here and there due to rust.

Yeah. The thing is I can't get the car out of the garage until I put some asphalt down. I don't have the money yet. So I figured I would scrape some. I then used the grinder with a wire brush to clean up the rusted areas. I still plan on media blasting the hard to reach areas.

I used a heatgun and scraper to get the tar off mine then sent my car to be beadblasted. It was time consuming to say the least and beadblasting wouldn't have gotten it off.

Yeah, it's thick in some spots. Using the chisel and sharpening it occasionally is working. It took me about three hours to do that one spot. I had more time but didn't feel like doing anymore. My hands had that shaky feeling like I was using a jack hammer or something. I should have the bottom done in about a week. I'm not going to touch the inside of the wheel wells. They were undercoated thick. I don't see any sign of rust.

Because it was peeling in areas and there was surface rust starting in other areas. I just wanted to make sure I got it all the first time around. I'm now welding some patches in on the bottom where the pans were getting thin or rusted. Boy what a frustrating job. It all starts well then all of a sudden. A hole melts open. I have my mig on the lowest setting with a 3-4 wire speed. I'm using .24 wire with the gas. I'm going to try a faster wire speed. I feel like this car is never going to get off this rotisserie. I have the time. No money! I can't work anymore hours. I just have too many bills. :(
You know though, It doesn't get me down that much because when I look at the car. It's mine and will some day be on the road. :o
