On The Road Again!

Post by fiasco »

It's official. I'm back on the road. I got everything put back together and buttoned up tight, and drove it around the block a couple of times. No oil leaking anywhere that I can see so far. The radiator is still leaking, but not from the place where I got it fixed. Actually, I think I tightened the drain plug too much and cracked it because it seems like that's where the leak is coming from. But, other than that, I'm driving again.

It feels good.

PS, every bit of black paint burned off the exhaust manifold, and it is now ash grey again.

Congrats again, Steve -- for all but the leak, of course. Try to get a real good idea where the leak is before taking it in to be fixed. Sometimes if it is a really small leak that only leaks when the radiator is hot, the radiator shop may not be able to duplicate the problem and find the leak. Keep a close eye on the water level and engine temp, and shut it off if it is overheating. I'm sure you are not eager to be building another engine anytime soon!

If you can solder a pipe joint then you can fix that drain plug leak. The key is to clean the area well down to bare metal. Watch the heat as you don't want to transfer too much heat to the lower cap or the cap joint can de-solder.

Bought a slimline electric fan from Mark. About 2 1/4 inches deep. I'll post a pic tonight.

Steve, show the gang a picture of how good the engine looks in the car.
You did a good job of choosing the engine colors to go with your black car.

congrats steve
for the exhoust paint , did you use heat resitand paint ? none of them would hold up great but if you apply the paint when the exhoust is a little hot the paint bakes in better and holds up longer

heatresitand paint needs to be baked in or it would just as long as normal paint ; just some tours arround the block :)

Not this time. I have several weekends of inattention to anything but the car that I need to make up over the next couple of weeks.
