my wife says i lost my mind

But i keep telling her i only lost the instructions on how to put the car back together.. i hate rust and i've got this about 95% rust free and all metal repairs almost complete. Now its time for rustproofing, does anyone have any experience with por 15 ? i was thinking of coating the entire underbody and interior also injecting into chassis.. What do you think ?? your input would be greatly appreciated. After por15 application i was going to spray with a product by fussion which is a undercoat also has sound deading charachteristics then topcoat with a matte black por15.

Wow, that cleaned up really nice! Did you sand blast it? It does not appear to have rust issues either.

I first tried soda, it came out spotless except for the underbody and of course anything rusty, so i manualy removed undercoating then i hit it with black beauty

WOW! now that's clean. I showed my wife and I said I don't think I'll go that far. All she could do is give me that look, "Yeah Right!" and walk away. By the way, what is black beauty? I have a glass bead blaster. Is that the same as a soda blaster. What you could use on the bottom is what I'm planning to use. It's called 2k CERAMIC CHASIS black satin and epoxy primer kit. $99.99 from Eastwood.com You can paint everything on the bottom with your spray gun. It's a two part hardening ceramic coating. You can even paint your control arms and such. They are using this stuff in custom shops. I saw it on that show on Tv Chop-cut-Rebuild. They said it's pretty strong and durable.

Great work!I have used POR 15 with good results. On the Fiat,I have used it on small rust areas at the bottom of the door(drain were clogged). No sign of any return.I was into off road Jeeps and used the POR 15 extensively.Never had a sign of any returning rust, and the vehicle spent a lot of time wet,muddy,etc..

hey, black beauty is a slag byproduct it is the same stuff that is on your roof shingles and comes in different grits. i used fine and depending on the nozzle size on your blaster i'm sure it would run fine[ok] but blasting really depends on your air source.. a word to the wise do it outdoors if you like being married. any experience with por15??

From memory there is a posting on http://www.turbo124.com/forum/ about someone using POR15 on the entire underside on their 124 coupe with good results.

I am under the impression that POR-15 deteriorates when exposed to UV. I would first apply POR-15 to bare metal, then topcoat with an undercoating-type product. The POR-15 might be overkill on clean, rust-free metal. Maybe check out the Eastwood catalog for other ideas.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is getting the POR 15 into nooks and crannies that sandblasting may have left naked metal. Isn't POR 15 too thick to spray? I sent my shell to a sandblaster and after getting the sand out of every orifice known to man, we sprayed the shell with epoxy primer to seal the metal from the elements.

That's why I like the idea of using the ceramic coating with the spray gun. Go to the site Eastwood.com and check out the product. There is a video of the product on google also. Just type the name in google and scroll down. They'll show you what it's about and inform you on the product.

Very nice work! When I am at this point in my restoration, I plan to use truck bed liner as an undercoating. It might be a better alternative to POR-15.

I've used por15,rustbullet and Masterseries and Masterseries is by far my favorite. It seems to bond better, can be sprayed and can be sanded. On the downside, it isn't as hard as Por15 and is only available in silver.
