Just received my chrome bumpers

Post by pope »

Not perfect, a few dents and a bumper sticker but they contain the license plate lights. A little metal work and some new chroming and presto. But that comes after the rest of the car. I got them for the cost of shipping. Big thanks to the guy who sent them.

Dave, I was thinking of not putting any overriders on and welding up the holes along with the license plate holes. What do you think!
I was thinking of just keeping it clean and neat. Kinda how it is in the pic

Hey guys, that's exactly what I want to get for my 78. Does anyone have a set they want to get rid of?

Pope,

I got some bumpers last year and had them rechromed. I was also debating if I should have the holes filled in but elected not to, just in case I wanted to mount the overriders some day. I went to my local autoshop and found some plastic licence plate screws with a nice chrome button to cover the screw. You can see them in the picture below.

I am still looking for a set of the licence plate lights for the rear set but may just fabricate some chrome endplates.

Yo Pope,

Welcome to the righteous side of Fiat Spider bumpers! :P Now we're going to have to find something else to razz you about :(

Carl, looks great!
Thats what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!!! Can I ask...what was the cost of chroming the three pieces.

I have 4 holes for the license plate bolts, someone must have redrilled new ones an inch over, and the 2 overrider holes. So I will fill them all and go clean. I can always drill new holes if I need to.

Bernie, I will say that these are really flimsy bumpers by Fiat. The front and rears together weight less than 22lbs. Dont worry Bernie, I am not a fragile guy...I can take with plenty to spare. 8)

Not really. They mount completely different than the tube bumpers and they don't "sit" the same because of where the mounting holes are located on the later model cars, but with a bit of tweaking and finessing, they make a VAST improvement!

... and if you put some shark gills in the front fenders and replaced the Fiat (pronounced FEE-ut) badges with Ferrari, you might get some joker on eBay to think he's bidding on a $MM California
