850 spider engine

I just got a 1972 850 Spider. my question is this. what direction does the engine turn?. I had someone tell me it was backwards from other engines. I'd like to swap it out for an engine with more HP. but need to know which way it turns.

i think its normal but im not so sure. problem with swapping in another engine is that the 850 transmission isnt great many people swap in a VW or porsche transaxle if upgrading to a DOHC engine.

there really isn't a "backwards", some engines turn clockwise, some counterclockwise

Do you know which way this engine turned? How much work is involved in swapping the VW tranny? and how much better is that?
