205/60R14s on 14 x 6 Rims?

Post by dcroop »

I just bought a set of 14 x 6 Panasports for my 82 Spider with the IAP sport springs on it. Can anyone confirm that 205/60R14s will fit OK without rubbing, etc? I suspect they will be fine, but would like to know if anyone is running this rim/tire combo. I know the stock size was 185/60R14, but seems like there are more options for tires in the 205/60R14 size.

Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

I'm running 195/60R14's on my '82 with no problems. I wanted a 205 but I didn't like the sidewall buldge, so I went with the 195's.

I'm running 205/60/13's on a 6" wheel on my 72 with no tire scrubbing and have a 195/55/14 autocross tire on turbo wheels that also fit just fine on the car. I believe Fiatcolumbia is running 15X7 wheels on his with no tire scrub.

I'm running the same rim/tire/spring as you and I have a small amount of rubbing when making a hard turn. Dave

Thanks everyone forthe responses. I was a little bit surprised to hear that 205s would be have some side bulge on a 14x6 rim. I don't want side bulges either, so I may look into the 195 width. Thanks all.

I am not sure what a 'side bulge' is,but the difference between a 195 and 205 tire with the same aspect ratio(60 series) is only 1/4'' in width.I cant imagine that would make much difference at all. With a lot of us running 50 series tire which have less sidewall and a lower profile,I think any 60 series tire would be fine with no issues on rubbing. The only time I have had rub was when my wheel well liner loosened up,like narfire stated.Quick fix! The offset of the wheel you use could have a lot to do with how the tires fit into the wheel wells.Good luck, and post some pics after you decide which way to go.

I'm running 225/45/14 on 8" rims on the back and have no problems. I have 195/40/14 on 7" rims on front with the car lowered on top of them and I have no rubbing issues. With what you described I'd have a hard time thinking you'd even come close to rubbing on anything.
