Fire extinguisher placement

Post by adrians »

I'm entering the Spider in a SuperSprint event and I need to install a fire extinguisher inside the car.

Where has everyone else placed theirs for easy access ? Looking for ideas ?

is it just a regular extinguisher or a system with nozzles? Either way, make it easily accessible. If you have a rollbar, attach it there on an upright

Make sure you can access it from outside your car. If you should need it for your car the first rule is get out, then reach for the extinguisher.

I installed mine in the passenger side footwell, screwed into the rail below the map pocket (i.e. running north south to leave room in the footwell for, well, feet!). The advice I was given (and followed) was that it was better to have the extinguisher readily accessible (i.e. in the cockpit) rather than in the boot (trunk for the American English speakers). I have done the same in one of my Coupes but mounted it against the engine firewall.
