CAR GET NO POWER AND EVEN NO PICKUP WHEN WARM....VERY BAD

Post by PATRIZIO »

Hi all !

I have a Fiat spider 1981 inj. 5 speed, like new, 50K

I have now a big trouble with it ;

when the engine become warm , the idle it's badly rough ,it's missing a lot ..No more power. With accelerator pedal in the floor, the maximum speed is 10 miles by hours and the catalytic converter become very red. The engine running on 2 or 3 cylinder without power at all and also the engine stall.

what was done :

first test the catalytic covertor with test pipe…problem was still there… :(

We clean the fuel tank, all gas line, replace gas filter, air filter and test the electric fuel pump (the pressure was perfect even the problem happening). problem was still there… :shock:

We replace timing belt, lambda probe and ignition coil. Problem was still there :twisted:

Now we will replace the ignition control module and pick up coil…after that we don’t know…what we have to do ?

Somebody can help me, please ? :?:

Ummmmmm...........

Sounds like you're running rich for some reason. The cat will only become red hot because of too much unburnt fuel going through. The cat then burns that, and you end up with extreme heat inside there.

Dunno exactly what the cause may be, but that is your problem.

your fuel pressure probably goes to 0 as soon as you trrn engine off, it should hold the pressure, either a leaking injector, but I have seen pressure regulators fail and put gas in vaccum hose., bad map or vaccum sensor can go full rich.

check your cold start circut. It adds more fuel to the system when cold. It sounds like it is not turning off once the car warms up.
