Any one have a '76 Vacuum Diagram?

Post by Hawke187 »

G'day all, I have been working on my Spider, and finding more as I go of things the PO has either screwed up or deleted...

Probably 75% of all the vacuum lines are either plugged off or broken, Sooooo, I have all new lines to install, but with the books I have it does not have a comprehensive Vacuum diagram.

Any one out there have a good one?

More updates to come on her resurrection....

there should only be a few vacuum hoses on that car and unless you want to connect the emission devices, the only hose you need is the crankcase vent vacuum which is under the accelerator pump arm.

I have already removed the EGR and smog pump stuff.

The other hoses I need to untangle are the gas vapor return lines and about 6/7 hoses that are all blocked off, all seem to be the orignal braided over rubber lines, AKA touch and self destruct hoses.

Quite a mess under the hood, but I'm working on it...

back to work now.. Thanks Mark

I have a mess under my hood and hope to get to it soon. Unfortunately, we already have 105 degree temps here and I have only about an hour in the mornings to mess with it before it gets too hot. We'll soon have 115 degrees.

My first problem is the emission controls. The PO had a new carb and exhaust system installed by Mark. Now that the emission controls have pretty much been bypassed, I'd like to take off the air rail to the cylinders. Mark, do you know the size and thread to plug the holes? Also, where can I obtain them (NOBODY seems to have metric sizes here in Yuma).

I have yet to put 20 miles on the car and it seems to run well except for a disturbing backfire when the throttle is released. Too rich? Bad exhaust valve clearance? Bad fast idle adjustment? Anyone with suggestions?

I believe you'll find that a standard pipe (not metric) plug will fit the air injection holes. Usually a backfire when decelerating is caused by a rich mixture, the excess unburned fuel fires off in the exhaust system. As I recall, the emission controls were all hooked back up since the car was still in Calif with the exception of the tube to the egr valve. If the air injection is still hooked up, that may be the cause of your backfire.

I bought a set of block off fittings from a guy on Ebay, he had welded the holes shut and then had them plated, they worked great, the main problem i had was trying to get the air rail off....
I ended up snapping the pipes off near the fittings, I tried every wrench in my arsenal to no avail...
I guess it goes to show when reason fails force prevails...

Here is a link to the auction that I won, you could probably ask if he has more or if he can make you a set, I see that he does not have any up at this time. But it cant hurt to ask, can it?

Thanks for the replies. I'll check with the EBay guy. Mark, I haven't had time to turn to the engine yet but there are at lease three hoses which go nowhere and are not plugged. I just finished with a cooling system leak before it got too hot to work today. I need to take care of the most important things first. My first problem was with not only air in the brake lines but VERY old brake fluid. It looked like coffee. I took the opportunity to do the dash cap because it looked interesting. This project is a passtime for me and I intend to spend about a year on it. It will go slowly during the summer but should proceed well starting in late October when it cools off.

BTW, the help on this site is appreciated. I'm certain that I'll save a lot of time by seeking help here. Thanks.
