OK, may sound like a silly question...but...does anyone know the origin of "SPIDER", or spyder? I see the terms used for different car manufactures and with the different spellings. Thanks All

Definition: In the early 1900s, a light two-seater car. In the 1950s the word was revived by some Italian manufacturers for an open two seater sports car.
I'd always thought that Fiat used Spider and Alfa used Spyder, but just recently I've run across three Fiats with front belt covers that had Spyder decals. It's the only place I've seen Fiat use that spelling. Useless trivia for a Sunday morning
