Just curious, why would it be considered a '85 1/2 model with a 9/84 production date?

They are nicknamed 1985 1/2 models because they were different than the regular 1985 cars and was the last design. That does not mean they were all made in 1985, nor were they all supposed to be 1986 cars. They started producing them in September of 1984.

Sorry- I have the new Google browser so it would not let me edit...

To add, here are the build dates I have listed so far:

'83 limited data, UNK & working on it
'84 Azzurra's were built in summer-fall of 1983
'84 Volumex were built intermittently built in '84

'85 Spiderpininfarina (new name- no longer called Azzurra's) were built in '84 (no Volumex Vin's recorded).
'85.5 & Volumex built from September '84 on for 1985 model year. The late cars built in 1985 (summer) all seem to be custom order cars.

There is a chunk of Vin #'s in a row that are volumex, then Spidereuropa, then USA models. Since they could only do one run at a time, they could only produce one type of car at a time. It was very inconsistent.
