"wobbling noise" when in 5th gear

hi all,

on my 124AS (1968) i hear a kind of "wobbling" noise when in 5th gear regardless of the speed. I suspect the ball bearing at the layshaft far end.

Any thought?

Was wondering if it's feasible to replace it without dismantling the gearbox from the car: the idea comes as this bearing and layshaft retaining nut is behind a removable cover and if doable would be a lot easier and time saving...
