I recently acquired an 84 Pininfarina - love it. But... I hate the the look of the side mirrors mounted to the glass.
I much prefer the look of the chrome side mirror mounted to the driver door, say like on a 78 Fiat Spider.
My question is... Obviously I can mounted a 78 chrome mirror to the door, but I need to get rid of the two holes on the quarter vent glass. If I grab that same glass peice from an 82 or earlier Fiat - is it the same size for a swap out?

I have assisted 2 friends convert their Pinin's to pre 82 vent windows. Swapping the entire vent frames allows the windows to open. Vent windows that open are preferred by many. The mirrors we used were after market " United Pacific" mirrors with internal turn signal arrows. Made of a polished nickel for mid fifties Chevy's The mirror lens are plastic and may not be as clear as a glass mirror but they look good on the car and are reasonably priced.

Interesting, so on a 1982 and earlier Fiat Spider, the vents rotated? That means the glass piece is likely different? Ideally, I could just replace the glass, then whole frame is a hassle. Honestly in a convertible, I dont really care if the quarter glass pivots....

Maybe drive the car a bit before you make the decision. We drive out 1981 with our vent windows open most of the time.Honestly in a convertible, I dont really care if the quarter glass pivots....
