Hard radiator hoses?

Post by WadiaAbushanab »

I recently had to bleed the coolant system, but I’ve realized the hoses seem hard like they have a lot of pressure in them, especially after driving it. I can still squeeze the hoses but they are hard and I do not remember them being like this. It doesn’t seem like the car is over heating but is it normal for it to feel like this? Any suggestions?

The hoses will get quite "hard" when they are up to pressure, but as long as you have the right radiator cap and it's working properly, it will vent if the pressure gets too high (that is, over roughly 11 psi). If the hoses are bulging in diameter as compared to the diameter where the hose clamps are, then you may have old hoses that need replacing.

If the car is not overheating and there are no leaks, then it sounds like your coolant system might be perfectly normal.
