A couple of years ago I posted a question about hesitation and backfiring and you helped me solve the problem. I have installed a Crane Cams Fireball XR3000 electronic ignition and the car is pretty darn reliable. But, it has developed some traits I'd like to correct if possible.
1. When the engine is running temp and you turn it off after a good drive, it sometimes will give a mild backfire through the tailpipe after the engine has stopped.
2. Again, when the engine is running temp and you re-crank after a stop, it wants to sputter until I really give it the gas and run the RPM's up and then it smoothes out.
3. Weirdest: when the car is at operating temp (180-200 degrees) everything is fine until I stop the car and get back in and re-crank. Now everything is HOT coming from under the dash or firewall. As far as I can tell no heat vents are open and the car is at the same temp but it's hot now and it wasn't when I was first driving it.
4. Last - are there no fresh air vents on a '78?

Backfire and Hesitation
Re: Backfire and Hesitation
1. set the idle speed down if it's up over 1K. With the air cleaner lid off and the engine at normal temp, shut the engine off, and look down the venturi for fuel dripping onto the throttle plate
