4 POST HOIST

Post by dinghyguy »

Dear braintrust (and Bryan too)

The too small garage is no more, all the contents are in the tent and spare bedrooms while the new almost big enough garage is under construction. Six hundred square feet, 11 ft ceiling and a hoist are in the budget. I have decied on a 4 post hoist because of the drip trays to protect the car below and no wheel droop. But i have some questions and i know this group will have opinions!

1 - Some models have casters that are intended to allow you to move the hoist around. does anyone have any experience with castors, ae they worth the additional cost?

2- another option is a jack that fits between the tracks and allows you to jack the car up enough to change a whell for example. Again do people actually use that feature?

3 - What brands and models are good? Which are bad and why?

4 - and of course what feature do you hate or find the most frustrating?

Thanks in advance

Trust in Bryan, I always say. At your own peril, of course.

But seriously, I wish I could offer advice, but your new workshop is well beyond my experience. I'm envious, though.

Ohh, opinions, I gots plenty of them. Politics, idealogy, girlfriends, Fiats, the size of a proper garage in which to store a dinghy, .... You name 'em, I gots 'em. But, I'm trying really hard to keep this forum clean of all stuff except that stuff related to Fiats. So far, so good.
