Trasmission oil

Post by Jim DeShon »

I just aquired a used 5 speed for my long broken '77 Spider. Can someone refresh may memory as to what oil I should use in this transmission. I know it's not 90wt. Thanks...J.D.

It is 90W non-EP oil, and you put in 1 3/4 quarts.
Make sure it is a GL-1 NOT a GL-5 oil

All my old brain remembered was that it was different than what we used in our other cars. That's why I asked...the brain is getting old :? ...J.D.

If you cant find ot locally ,Vick Autosports has it.There have been a lot of posts on substitute fluid, but the safe ,proven ,factory rec'd route seems the one to follow.

I concur with Craig. I thought I'd try a synthetic oil with a GL1 rating (Amsoil) and shortly thereafter the tranny bit the dust. It could have been coincedence, but from then on, I'm sticking with pure GL1 gear lube.

If you can't find the right fluid in So Cal, you're looking in the wrong spots
